How UCC National Disaster Ministries responds to US-based disasters

Listed below is an outline of how UCC National Disaster Ministries responds to USA based disasters:

  • Disaster strikes.
  • Local government, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Administration) and the American Red Cross provide initial response.
  • UCC National Disaster Ministries in partnership with Church World Service contact local UCC and other religious representatives to asses needs which will be "unmet" by government and/or secular response but which can be resources through churches.
  • The general One Great Hour of Sharing Offering provides funding to immediate requests from CWS and UCC Conferences.
  • CWS and UCC National Disaster Ministries participate in the long term recovering process.
  • Help the UCC prepare to respond to disasters in the U.S. and Puerto Rico by designating future gifts for the "Emergency USA" disaster appeal. Gifts may be made to your congregation, marked in the memo portion "Emergency USA" with the request that they be sent to the Nebraska Conference Office from which they will be forwarded with like gifts to the Office for Global Sharing of Resources OR you can send your gifts directly to the Office for Global Sharing of Resources; Wider Church Ministries; 700 Prospect Ave., Cleveland, OH 44115.
